What started as a dream became a reality in late April of 2021. For five years I’ve been dreaming of hosting adventure retreats for men to drop out of their normal lives and come together for an immersive and adventurous experience that intentionally uplifts and deepens the level of consciousness. When I chose to become a Flow Coach in 2020 and dove into the curriculum, I knew it would be a perfect match for the experience.
The goal of the flow immersion was to get a solid group of men together interested in engaging with flow state protocols and participate in challenging activity together - trail running - uphill, at elevation and in deep sand.
Hosted in the Heart of the Mojave Desert in the Afuera Vida Casita (a cabin my wife and I brought back to life - see podcast 1, 2 & 3 here) we staged the event. I brought in two of my dear old friends to round out the offering. Ronald Murray - Sous Chef to Gordon Ramsey took care of the nutrition while Gabe Ohlson - Yoga Instructor and Potter looked after the daily recovery stretching sessions.
We had 11 men in total show up from around the country - driving as far as 16 hours or flying in from Boston and NYC. It was a collection of men who beckoned the calling and showed up.
Whether it was in one of the breathwork sessions, on either of the runs, in one of the meditation practices, the ice bath or sharing their inner world amongst a company of strangers - every man was challenged and walked away feeling refreshed, emboldened and clear about their next steps.
In terms of flow content we covered the baseline attributes of the lifestyle: (proper sleep, nutrition, gratitude, mindfulness, relationships and scheduling). We lived the flow cycle and engaged with a path to finding purpose through personal values, philosophy and goal stacking.

I never met Colin, but was recommended to do this from a close friend. I drove 12 hours to be here and showed up recently divorced, with three kids and having recently sold my business. To be honest, I was struggling, lost, searching for answers or a path towards where my next mission in life should be and I couldn’t have been happier with the experience. I had some experience with meditation, gratitude, breath work and flow, but the way in which the materials were presented opened my eyes to cement my idea of what I don’t want to be and foster who I seek to become.

For a person that wants to work on themselves, come once to just check it out. Then you’ll understand why this is a mandatory quarterly or yearly pilgrimage. Not only is it a fun time, but it’s incredibly valuable.

This experience was so beyond the expectations that I had. I barely understood what “flow Immersion” meant, but once I was integrated in the experience, it was one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever done. I’m going home with more understanding of myself, my own purpose and how to show up fully as a new husband inside of my marriage. The tools we were given and exercises we went through together gave me a clear sense of how to apply and integrate these tools into my life.
